ADVARSEL: Et influensalignende virus herjer blant en rekke spillere i Pacific Life Open-turneringen!
INDIAN WELLS, California - A flu bug has disrupted play at the WTA and ATP Masters Series event, causing a number of players to fall ill before and during matches, organizers said on Wednesday.
"There have been 11 players so far in the tournament that have complained of stomach pain, weakness and dizzyness," said tournament physician Sam Reber.
"Some have been able to continue and some have had symptoms that have forced them to withdraw.
"This appears to be a flu-related illness and not any food-related illness."
Russian Marat Safin said the virus slowed him down in his 6-4, 6-3 win over Australian Mark Philippoussis on Wednesday.
"I had no power because I was very sick last night," said Safin. "I was sick to my stomach, throwing up, and I had a fever."
Reber said the symptoms of the virus are short-lived and the players usually get it out their systems within a day. He did not know what the source of the virus was but ruled out food poisoning from the tournament's cafeteria
"It is in multiple players over multiple days, not one single event," said Reber. "They have their symptoms that seem to disappear within about 24 hours and then they are left with weakness but recover fairly quickly."
Czech Jiri Novak ended his match prematurely on Wednesday giving Robby Ginepri of the US an walkover.
Argentina's Gaston Gaudio, Felix Mantilla of Spain and Jarkko Nieminen of Finland all pulled out of their matches on Tuesday with stomach sickness.
råder til at holde indsatserne lave, eller måske spille lidt mere på favoritfald en normalt! skulle 4 af favoritterne blive ramt idag! ville man hurtigt kunne lave lidt penge på det!
