Safin to beat Hanescu
Bet of the day imo. The classic mistake made about Safin is to compare his ATP level to Davis Cup. Safin raises his level playing Grand Slams and Davis Cup. He can not find motivation for more and it has been like that for a long time. There is a reason why one of the greatest captains (Russian captain) has chosen him for this tie. Safin is stronger mentally compared to Hanescu. Hanescu was a shadow of himself this friday against Youzhny. He showed no confidence and being the number 1 player is too much of a pressure for the melancholic romanian.
Melzer to beat Schuettler
Melzer did a classic "Melzer" on friday. Throwing away a 2-0 set lead against Kohlschreiber. Untill that he played very well. Melzer is a nutcase but has shown he can find his range again after a disaster. Schuettler played a WTA match against Koubek and was beaten in straight sets. The two austrians can simply hit through Schuettler on a court like this and angle their lefty shots in a uncomfortable way for the german. Melzer to make revenge his display on friday.
Roddick to beat Wawrinka
I predicted a surprise on friday as Blake was beaten. Simply because Blake is no great DC player and Wawrinka plays well facing no pressure. Today he plays one of the best DC players in modern history. Roddick is amazing and especially in the US. Wawrinka will put some pressure on Roddick but not enough to make the american lose the plot.
Sela to beat Johansson
I always like Johansson in the Davis Cup. He has an amazing record at home indoors. But he has also been out of competitive tennis since october. He played a terrible match on friday but faced a terrible player who did not have the abilities to punish him. He stated in post match interview that he was feeling totally exhausted. Sela won an important match against a very surprising high level playing Vinciguerra. Sela got a higher level compared to Johansson these days and a none existing crowd in Sweden will not change that fact.
Stepanek vs Simon
I like both players mental strength here. Stepanek is a monster mentally and Simon is not a guy one can intimidate. I do think Stepanek got a slight edge playing at home and Simon is still inexperienced looking at Davis Cup (debut this weekend) No bet but if I were to choose a player it would be Stepanek.
